Alerant on the Growth Track
With its revenue expected to reach 500 to 600 million Hungarian Forints, the first full year in business has been profitable for Alerant Inc., established in the fall of 2003. "Our expectations and calculations concerning the company have proved correct, and the past experiences of the founders were a great help in getting the company off to a quick start," said Managing Director Mr. Tamás Szabó, who had worked for five years as the CEO of IQSOFT and acted as the manager of the U.S.-based subsidiary of KFKI for two years.
The company was established by Hungarian technology experts and developers primarily for the implementation of applications integration projects. Alerant Inc. undertakes to carry out Java (J2EE) based integration, portal development and unique development projects. Its main profile is the distribution of the products of the American IT firm BEA Systems; to help further this activity, Alerant Inc. has set up a training and technology support center. The company employs 25 people and realizes its product sales partly through its partner network. It currently cooperates with about 6?8 such partner companies. One of Alerant Inc.'s most important related projects has been its participation in the development of the Hungarian Unified Labour Database (EMMA), to which the company supplied a BEA application server. In addition to the above, the company has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with HP Hungary, and has been cooperating with Borland in the framework of a partnership scheme. This latter cooperation was called into being by increasing competition in the software development market and a lack of supplies in the market for tools supporting application lifecycle. In its integration, portal development and unique applications development projects, Alerant Inc. has been implementing the Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) solution supplied by Borland. The market is starting to recover somewhat after the sluggish market situation of 2003, said Mr. Tamás Szabó. One sure sign of this is that it was easier to find unemployed but experienced development experts in the fall of 2003 than it is nowadays. There is a shortage now especially of Java developers, added Mr. Szabó. The IT investments realized following Hungary?s accession to the European Union have been contributing greatly to the market recovery, and IT firms also made substantial gains in connection with the portability of phone numbers, a development introduced in the Hungarian telecommunications market in 2004. The Managing Director of Alerant Inc. expects a further significant two-digit growth for the year 2005.
